Hi All,
We talked about the last get together in St Fagans. Everyone said that people loved the music session that Jo led. Lynne said that she didn’t think she’d sing but she did – and loved it! Paul said that he had a great time playing the harmonica. There were lots of smiling faces.
There was general agreement that the icebreakers in the initial session got people from different groups talking to each other. People felt that it was enjoyable and that it worked well. Rodger said that maybe the next get together would consist of an icebreaker session, a music session and a Tai Chi session. He’ll investigate the possibility that it can be held in Margam park. Any other suggestions would be greatly welcomed.
Rob said that he remembered when he first came to these meetings. He said that there were a lot of people who had had their injury recently, but now, the meetings consist of people who had their injury quite some time ago. We agreed that the people that come now have had a fair bit of experience in handling the effects of their injury and that that’s a great resource for newcomers. Rodger said that he used to meet people individually when he worked in the NHS. That developed trust and confidence which made it a lot easier to join the group. Rodger can’t introduce new members now that he has left the NHS. So, newcomers have to join the group “cold”. That’s quite frightening so we try to reassure as much as we can but it still requires courage to keep coming.
Rodger said that he hoped that the website would make the meetings more accessible, but there haven’t been many hits on it so he asked everyone if they’d look it up and if they’d submit a positive story on the feel good page. Nobody knew how to get onto the website so the link for it is: https://www.headwaysouthwestwales.org.uk
We also agreed to post these summary letters on the website. However, if anyone doesn’t want to be mentioned, then just tell me and you won’t be mentioned on the letter that’s posted on the website.
There will be no meeting in August. The next meeting will be at 1.15pm on Monday 11th September 2017 in Llewellyn Hall, Swansea Road, SA4 9AQ (Take the Gorseinon exit from Junction 47 of the M4, turn first left at the next roundabout, and Llewellyn Hall is almost on the immediate left, next to the church).
Kind regards
Rodger
